News: (updated 10/6/09)

There will be a short meeting for anyone interested in trying out for LRHS Track & Field on Tuesday, Oct. 27th at 2:45 in the main gym.  This meeting should not last more than 10-15mins.    If you are interested in trying out, please make arrangements to be at this meeting!   I will hand out paperwork and physical forms that MUST be turned in PRIOR to the first practice and discuss requirements/expectations to make the team.

We've updated the girls 100m record in the table on this page. The record is now held by Paige Eley (2009).
The previous record holder was Devon Armstrong (1996)

Please feel free to browse information for the past 2008-2009 Track and Field season, and links to LRHS Track and Field archives. Also, please visit the Leesville Road High School Cross Country web site to learn more about this Fall's Cross Country season.

Highlights from the 2008-2009 Season:

Several LRHS track athletes qualified for the Nike Outdoor National Champioship Track & Field meet.  The girls 4x2 relay team competed today and broke their own school record by running 1:42.83.  The team is made up of Paige Eley, Sarah Jones, Hailey Blackburn, and Kaitlyn Quirk.       Paige Eley also competed in the 100m Emerging Elite and finished 5th.  This a very big honor to qualify and compete at  this national track meet.   This has capped off a very successful year for the girls track & field team.  The team finished in the top 10 in the state and set 6 new school records.

The girls 4x2 relay team (Sarah Jones, Hailey Blackburn, Kaitlyn Quirk, and Paige Eley) finished in 5th place and set a new school record with a time of 1:42.91

As many of you know, I have always put together a booklet with all the meet results, individual stats, team stats, school records, etc....   I had a feeling that I would not get a chance to put 85 of them together this year....so I have put all 45 or so pages onto one  Word document.  I am not real sure if I can email out a 45 or so page document as an attachment, but I plan on trying to do that once the state meet is over and all of the results are finalized.  That way you can print it out and put a booklet together if you wish to... or you can just keep it saved.

Anyone that wishes to participate in cross country in the fall should email me and let me know ASAP if they did not attend the meeting this past Tuesday.            I will email out summer workouts and other info. regarding the upcoming season in the near future.   It is VERY important that I know who wants to come out.  Athletes must be cleared by me before they can start summer workouts and tryout at the first official practice.        You must have an update to date athletic physical on file with our athletic trainer at LRHS and be academically eligible.

Here is the latest CAP-7 Honor Roll, updated 5/18/09.

All uniforms should be turned into me immediately.    Seniors can not graduate until all fees/fines are taken care of.

Congratulations to Paige Eley!!   She recently signed with N.C. State to run track for them next year.

Names are now posted for 2009 All-Conference Atheletes

PLEASE STRESS the importance of walking home AND/OR training in groups of 4 or more to your daughters and sons. They should always be aware of people around them and be aware of traffic. We have been very lucky that we have not had any problems up to this point.Safety should be our #1 concern.   If at any point an athlete feels they are in danger they should do everything they can to notify police, administration, and/or me. Problems or accidents with traffic and other dangers can sometimes be avoided by running with multiple people since a group is more easily seen and more difficult for someone to approach.

I would suggest talking to other parents/athletes and several of you go to the same camp.
I am sure there are a lot more out there, but these are a few that I have received info. about.   Please remember that these camps are not going to magically make you a great runner OR get you into shape for the cross country season.    You need to make sure you have been training between the end of track season and during the summer BEFORE going to a camp.

If anyone knows of a student that would be interested in being a manager for the indoor and outdoor track team..>PLEASE send them to me!!!  I really need someone to take attendance each day at practice and do a few other duties.  The manager would not have to stay at practice the entire time.  I currently have 200 kids signed up for track and it will be really hard for me to keep attendance by myself if we have anywhere close to that number show up.   I do not expect that many to actually show up....but 120 or so will still be a lot!

EMAILS....   Please do not think I am ignoring you if I do not respond to your emails.   Unless you ask me a specific question I will probably not respond.   I do read the emails and pay attention to them.... but I typically do not respond due to the LARGE number of emails I get each day.   Please continue to send me the emails... I like being informed about issues, but just do not be bothered by the fact that I might not be able to respond to them all.

I need everyone to continue doing a great job of recruiting new athletes!!!!  We need as many good athletes as possible to defend our boys championship and REGAIN our girls championship!!!   Please pass this info. along to any upcoming 9th graders that you think might be interested in cross country and track.
